Pre-Prosthetic Surgery

Long Lasting, Comfortable, Secure are the results we expect when creating the healthiest environment for replacing missing teeth.

A Dental Prosthesis replaces missing teeth.

Pre-Prosthetic Surgery is performed to improve the construction of a dental prosthesis. Modern surgical and restorative procedures now make it possible for most everyone to have attractive, comfortable teeth with the confidence and feeling of well being which accompanies them. In most cases, as a candidate for pre-prosthetic surgery you are fortunate to have many options:

  • Dental Implants

    • When several teeth, importantly located teeth, or all teeth are missing, it is often impossible for your dentist to make you a non-removable bridge or denture. If your jaw is shaped properly, implants can often be inserted into the bone to anchor your prosthesis. A simple panoramic x-ray, along with our clinical examination, will usually give us all the information needed to determine if implants will provide comfortable, long lasting support for a dental prosthesis. Occasionally, we must send you for special radiographic studies before we can make this determination.

  • Muscle Repositioning

    • Patients who have lost all their natural teeth in either jaw may have muscle attachments which continuously dislodge their denture and prevent them from chewing properly or interfere with dental implants. These muscles can be repositioned to allow for a more stable and comfortable fit of the denture. Sometimes a soft tissue graft is necessary to keep these muscles in the proper position.

  • Bone Grafting

    • When a considerable amount of the jaw bone has been lost, it may require replacement with a bone graft These procedures enable us to place implants in otherwise impossible situations.
